What is Relay for Life?
The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is a celebration of survival, a tribute to the lives of loved ones and 12 hours of fun, friendship and fundraising to beat cancer.

Relay For Life involves teams of around 10 people who participate in a 12 hour, non-competitive relay. Participants take turns walking, running or strolling around the track with all day entertainment.
Teams consist of people from the RCI Community, including Students, Alumni and friends or relatives of staff or students.

  • Student teams must participate from 12pm to 12 am.
  • Jr. Relayer teams must participate from 5 pm to 10 pm
(but may stay till 12 am)
  • Community teams must participate from 6 pm-12 am
(but may participate for the whole 12 hours)

With your help, we have raised close to $800,000 in nine years! RCI is the number 1 fundraiser in the country for High Schools and Universities in CANADA!!!

How You Can Get Involved?

Participating in the Relay is an excellent way to show your support in the fight against cancer.

The first step is to find a team to participate with. By registering with a team or starting your own, you will receive a pledge form with which you are asked to collect at least $125 per participant.

Many people have been touched by cancer and friends and neighbors are usually generous in their donations. Then, join us on Friday, May 27th for the 2016 RCI Relay for Life.

Interested Team Captains can pick up a kit from RCI’s main office or email us at and we will deliver a kit to you. There is also a $15 fee to register per participant that covers the t-shirt and a luminary that you will receive on the event day. You can also registering using this google form

Contact us at if you have any questions regarding registration.

Don’t be discouraged if you can’t find a team to participate with. Contact the Relay Committee, we’ll help you find a team or a way to help make this event a success!

Survivor’s Victory Lap & Luminaries
Cancer survivors are invited to walk a celebratory lap of our Relay For Life to acknowledge and celebrate their courage in their struggle with the disease. The lap will happen at 6pm and mark the half way point of our 12 hour relay.

If you know someone who is a cancer survivor, let them know about the Relay and ask if they will participate in the Survivor’s Victory Lap.

A special form is available from Team Captains, by clicking here or can be picked up from the Main Office at RCI.

Luminaries are candles that are placed in special bags that bear the names of cancer survivors and loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer.

Luminaries can be purchased for $5 each, this year we will also be selling Balloominaries; clear helium filled latex LED balloons that will hold messages of hope.

We Choose RVH
Over the next five years RCI has pledged to donate $25,000 to the I Choose RVH Campaign. We are in the second year of our pledge and are extremely happy to the RCI Resource Room as part of the RVH Oncology Department.

This money will be raised through our Bonnie Kerr Memorial Cure for Cancer held annually at Ma-te-way Activity Centre.

RCI’s Student Council realizes the importance of the Renfrew Victoria Hospital and its vital role in Renfrew and as part of the Renfrew Community we are showing our dedication and commitment to this important institution.
